CLAIMING INFANTS ON THE CHILD CARE FOOD PROGRAM
Infants (any child under the age of 1) CAN be claimed on the Child Care Food Program. However, there are several rules that apply to infants and how to claim them.
1) Infants of all ages can be claimed on the Food Program, even if the parent is supplying the formula. The provider must supply the infant cereal, fruits and vegetables, and other foods as the child is developmentally ready for them.
2) You CAN claim a breast-fed infant, but only if the parent is supplying you with pumped breast milk. (If the parent comes to your home to breast-feed the child, you CANNOT claim that meal).
For Food Program purposes, Infants are divided into three age groups:
Click on one of the age groups above to find out how to claim that age infant.
Once an infant turns one year old, they can either remain on the Infant Meal Pattern (if they are still drinking formula or aren't ready for table food) OR they can be taken off the Infant Meal Pattern and fed what the older children are eating. If you take an infant OFF the Infant Meal Pattern, they MUST be eating EVERYTHING the older children eat, and they must be drinking MILK (not formula).
