Quality Enhancement Rethinking the Brain: New Insights into Early Development
“Recent brain research suggests that warm, responsive child care is not only comforting for an infant; it is critical to healthy development.” -Rethinking the Brain: New Insights into Early Development, Families and Work Institute (1977) Quality child care services provide more than just child care – quality services foster the development of positive relationships between caregivers, children and their families. They provide experiences for children that expand their thinking and language, helping them learn and develop.Quality care draws a sound base of knowledge about early childhood, including how children learn and develop. Caregivers providing the highest level of care know what appropriate experiences and expectations are for children of different ages and are sensitive to the individual and cultural dimensions of development. Caregivers are able to communicate and build special bonds with children. They are able to create a stimulating environment, with a balance of planned and spontaneous experiences as well as active and restful periods, appropriate to the individual needs. CCRC's Quality Enhancement Initiative strives to empower participating programs with encouragement and assistance needed to successfully develop quality programming. Both Reaching for the Stars Quality Differential System and National Accreditation are linked with the Department of Human Services' Child Care Subsidy Reimbursement Program.
