4/11/13: Child Care Aware® of America issued a press release, “We Can Do Better: 2013 Update” that Oklahoma child care laws nearly fail to protect children. There was a ranking of state child care center regulations and oversight. Oklahoma ranks 4th in the nation but can still do many things better as that still is only a “C” grade. 7/16/12: Great News!  The producers of “Your Baby Can Read!”  which falsely claimed its product taught babies to read, has shut down.  This $200 video series was deceiving families saying the product was educational for babies without any evidence of that claim.  Click here for the full story.

7/10/12: The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a release announcing new federal safety standards for play yards or pack ‘n plays. Between November 2007 and December 2011, there were more than 2,100 incidents involving play yards reported to CPSC, including 60 fatalities and 170 injuries. 5/30/12: General admission tickets for Top of the Town are officially sold out…with two weeks left until the event! VIP tickets are still available for $125 each. These tickets allow exclusive access to the 16th floor of the Petroleum Club Building as well as full access to the rest of the event.

5/22/12: We have sold over 300 tickets for Top of the Town.  That leaves less than 200 available!  Here’s an article from today’s Tulsa World about the event.

3/8/12: WAY TO GO, OKLAHOMA! NACCRRA issued a press release…”Oklahoma Earns Top Ranking”. Oklahoma scored the highest in the nation at 80% on its current small family child care home standards and oversight policies. Out of 150 possible points, OK scored 120. Sixteen states scored a zero! Only 15 states meet each of the 10 basic health and safety requirements needed to keep children safe and healthy in child care.

2/21/12: Let’s Move! Child Care now has more than 1,800 participants that have joined the fight against childhood obesity. 11/14/11: PSO and the AEP Foundation have given $300,000 to Smart Start Oklahoma for literacy projects.  Child Care Resource Center will receive $52,500 over 3 years to implement the Cradling Literacy Initiative.  Smart Start Oklahoma held a press conference at Crosstown Learning Center to announce the award.  Children from Crosstown were all provided with backpacks full of materials for families to do together with a focus on science and literacy activities.

11/10/11: The LINK Project has been awarded a grant from the Children’s Medical Charities Association to purchase developmental toys and equipment for child care centers.  Members of the CMCA operate their upscale thrift shop “Thrift Avenue” at 1125 South Utica Avenue, with ALL proceeds earned supporting programs that directly benefit children. “Thrift Avenue” depends on donations of gently used or new items from the community so please remember them the next time you have items to donate.  For more information, visit their website at www.cmcatulsa.org. �
